This past week, I had the pleasure of performing three shows at The Borgata, and as always, it was a perfect gig. After each show, I found myself unwinding with a cigar, sitting alongside the hilarious Kevin Dombroski, who was working with me there. Now, let me tell you, there’s something special about being able to smoke a cigar indoors in 2024. It feels almost rebellious but in the best way possible. Plus, there’s nothing like the combination of good cigars and great conversation.
One thing I’ve noticed over the years: some comedians are just easier to have a natural, flowing conversation with than others. For me, those are usually the comics who are still climbing the ladder. There’s something comforting about chatting with someone who’s hustling, like I’ve done (and still do). Maybe it’s because we share the same perspective.
Funny enough, it’s the same when I’ve worked on TV shows or the few movies I’ve done. By the end of the day, I’ve almost always become best friends with the guy at the bottom of the totem pole. Whether it’s the PA, the lighting guy, or the sound guy, those are my people. We just click. If you’re a millionaire, though… well, let’s just say, we rarely hit it off. That’s why I genuinely appreciate all of you “regular Joes” out there who get me and think I’m funny. You’re my kind of people, and I’m grateful. I look forward to meeting you, whether for the first time or once again, at one of my shows.
Hire me to standup
Are you planning a private event in the next year? A school fundraiser, birthday party, anniversary, corporate event, etc. Why not hire me to do standup comedy at your gathering? You’d be surprised how affordable my prices could be if it’s under a 5-hour drive from my home in New Rochelle, NY. Contact me directly via email and we can set up a phone call or zoom call to discuss your event and how having me do standup there can make it a great day to remember.
"I wanted to write to tell you that our program Laugh Your Tuchas Off on March 5th was a huge success thanks to headliner Joe Matarese and opener Paul Spratt.... They loved that Joe raved about our community center and all that attended are still raving about the show. Please extend our warmest thank you to Joe." - Rachel Singer, York Jewish Community Center
